ME Miranda

Never in my life have I ever been asked to leave my home. Going to sleep sunday night with a wildfire 60 miles away and waking up monday morning to find out that you've been placed under mandatory evacuation and that the fire is only 5 to 10 miles away in Rancho Bernardo of all places is surreal. This was never supposed to happen. We live way too near the coast for this to happen. But I have to say that packing just the essentials makes you re-evaluate what's important in life.

Since everyone we knew all the way from Escondido down to Chula Vista was being evacuated we really had no place to stay so we ended up at the stadium. Staying at Qualcomm sucked in that it was way too hot during the day and absolutely freezing at night. And was seriously only redeemed by the fact that all of the volunteers there were so nice. Everywhere you turned there was someone offering you something: food, water, toiletries, blankets and pillows. Ooh and the media circus was in full swing. I totally got to see Katie Couric and Anderson Cooper.

Even though our area is still listed under mandatory evacuation I am back at home. The air quality is still pretty poor but at least the fires are out in our area. Our home was never immediately threatened but I do know people who lost their homes and it's still unimaginable to me.
